The Naskapi Development Corporation (NDC) is pleased to announce that a historic Joint Resolution has been officially adopted with the Council of the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach. This renewed partnership strengthens transparency, unity, and cooperation between our two leadership bodies and establishes a clear framework for long-term collaboration.
Chief Louise Nattawappio emphasized the importance of this step forward, noting that the shift in how both organizations work together is already having a positive impact.
“We all know the past had its challenges, but what matters now is that we’ve learned from it and chosen a better way forward. Today, we are working together with transparency and unity, and that change is already strengthening our Nation. The decisions we make now will shape a future we can all be proud of, and I believe this renewed partnership sets us on a strong, hopeful path for every Naskapi community member.”
The resolution outlines several commitments, including improved communication, coordinated planning, and closer cooperation on cultural and economic development projects. These measures are aimed at reducing duplication of work, strengthening program delivery, and ensuring that both organizations are aligned in serving the community’s long-term priorities.
Noah Swappie, NDC Executive Administrative Director, highlighted the significance of this renewed collaboration:
“This resolution represents a significant milestone for us. It marks the beginning of enhanced collaboration, strategic planning, and mutual support between NDC and the Nation. We are committed to establishing a well-structured organization that aligns with our mandate and endures for future generations. This revitalized partnership brings us the clarity, unity, and peace of mind necessary to achieve these goals effectively.”
The resolution also affirms the Nation’s support for the NDC’s efforts to secure long-term, stable funding from the Government of Québec. In addition, both organizations will participate in upcoming constitutional discussions to explore ways future governance structures might reflect and strengthen this renewed relationship while respecting the distinct roles of each entity.
Executive Director Samuel Laflamme expressed appreciation for the collaborative effort that made this agreement possible.
“This renewed resolution gives us the structure and cooperative spirit we need to move forward. It reflects our shared commitment to transparency, unity, and long-term planning for the benefit of our Nation. I’m grateful to everyone who contributed to this important milestone.”
Representatives from both organizations will now work together to monitor progress, maintain communication, and support the long-term goals outlined in the resolution. The NDC extends its sincere thanks to all community members who took part in the drafting, consultation, and review process.
